The Millwork District

This environment art piece was inspired by the Millwork District in my town but with a more worn-down and atmospheric emphasis. My concept was taking the appeal of this historic area and pushing the imperfections to the point that the environment feels abandoned or post-apocalyptic.

I had a blast taking inspiration photos on a very foggy night, and I walked around in Google Maps to find intriguing details to help explore the concept. Then I challenged myself to use primarily Quixel Megascans for my assets, as this would allow me to focus more on the overall storytelling of the piece and test my ability to use limited assets creatively. The only assets I custom-made were the street lamp and a few graffiti details. This project amplified my lighting skills and gave me a fun outlet to create an interesting environment with an eerie feel.
